The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office serves the most populous county in New England, covering 54 diverse cities and towns. We prosecute cases across 12 district courts, 4 juvenile courts, and 2 superior courts.

Job Title             Data Analyst

Full Time            Full Time; Non-Exempt

Reports to          Director of Information Technology

Salary                 $75,000 - $80,000 yearly

Placement within MDAO   MDAO Main Office in Woburn

Position Summary

The Data Analyst will support the Information Technology department by overseeing the Office’s proprietary case management system (“Damion”).  The Data Analyst will be responsible for providing timely and detailed analytical information and procedural guidance relating to the collection, analysis, and presentation of prosecution data maintained in the Damion system.  Responsibilities will include meeting internal and external reporting demands and identifying methods to improve the accuracy and completeness of information that is entered into the system. This full-time position requires an extremely hardworking, innovative, organized individual who possesses expertise in interpreting and analyzing criminal justice system data.  The position requires both great attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to manage SQL databases and other types of large data sets.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design reports and dashboards that analyze data though use of reporting software
  • Work closely with data entry staff managers to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of information that has been entered into case management system
  • Meet regularly with management to leverage pre-existing knowledge of prosecutorial processes, assess reporting needs, and construct reports and dashboards to meet those needs.
  • Advise management on the potential for implementation or optimization of workflows involving data entry into case management system
  • Enhance functionality of case management system by modifying front-end windows and back-end SQL code as needed
  • Additional duties assigned to the Information Technology department as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience as a data analyst, database analyst, database administrator, or comparable position
  • Strong proficiency in SQL & PL/SQL
  • Strong proficiency in Python or Powershell
  • Familiarly with the Commonwealth’s criminal justice system, particularly with court procedure
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively present information in dashboards using Tableau, PowerBI, or dbxtra Reporting software
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with a variety of functional areas and different levels of management
  • A valid driver’s license, as travel across Middlesex County may be required
  • A background check is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the Commonwealth case management system (“Damion”)
