2024 Superintendents & Chiefs Breakfast

LEXINGTON  – Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan last month hosted her annual “Superintendent’s and Chiefs Breakfast” that brought together over 120 school superintendents, police and fire chiefs, and elected officials from Middlesex County to discuss some of the most prevalent issues facing young people today. This annual event, held this year at Minuteman High School in Lexington, fosters partnerships by bringing together staff from the district attorney’s office with educators, law enforcement and community leaders to collaborate on students’ safety, juvenile justice and crime prevention strategies.

Presenters at the breakfast were:

  • Edward Davis, former Boston Police Commissioner and current President and CEO of the Edward Davis Company, who discussed responses to swatting, or hoax emergency calls that prompt SWAT response. He emphasized the importance of being prepared for these calls with clear protocols and specialized training.
  • Dr. Robert Sege, the Founder of HOPE, spoke on the role that childhood trauma plays in adult lives, and how educators and local police can help reduce this role by facilitating positive experiences in school and in community; and
  • Special Agent Sarah Wheeldon of the MassBay Threat Assessment Team at the FBI focused on the warning signs of children and adolescents who may pose a threat to public safety later in life, and the necessary and collaborative mitigation steps that law enforcement and schools can take.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s Office offers various youth programming that aim to address the emotional, physical and social needs of children and young people to achieve long-term wellness and success. These year’s breakfast also highlighted the District Attorney’s “Digital Citizenship Academy”, a program offered to schools which strives to equip young people with tangible skills to sort fact from fiction online and on social media. The program is taught by District Attorney Ryan and Assistant Middlesex District Attorneys and is available to any Middlesex County based high school, middle school or youth program interested in participating.
