Woman Charged with Manslaughter in Connection with Fatal Marlborough Stabbing

MARLBOROUGH – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Marlborough Chief of Police David Giorgi have confirmed that Darlene Carreras, 37 of Marlborough has been charged with manslaughter in connection with fatally stabbing Eric Murray, 45, inside her Saint Ives Way apartment in Marlborough on August 2, 2023.

Ms. Carreras was arrested in Worcester on Saturday and arraigned today in Marlborough District Court. She was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for August 23, 2023.

On August 2, at approximately 10:32 p.m., Marlborough Police responded to a 911 call from a resident of a St. Ives Way apartment reporting an altercation inside a neighboring residence where a woman was calling for help. Upon arrival police located the victim inside suffering from apparent stab wounds.  He was transported to UMass Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Ms. Carreras was also located inside the home with cuts on her hands and was transported to the hospital and released.  Mr. Murray’s minor son was also located in the home and was unharmed.

The preliminary investigation suggests that Ms. Carreras and Mr. Murray had been in a romantic relationship and had been seeing each other regularly.  Last week, the victim went to the defendant’s home and the two of them got into an altercation during which time Ms. Carreras allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest killing him. After stabbing Mr. Murray, the defendant allegedly applied pressure to  the wound but did not call 911 and instead called a friend to come over for help.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the manner of death was homicide caused by stab wounds.

This is an open and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and Marlborough Police. The prosecutor assigned to this case is Daniel Harren. The Victim Witness Advocate is Renee Leone.
