Woman Arraigned For Allegedly Murdering Mother In Malden

WOBURN - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis have announced that Sharlyn Savain, 24, was arraigned today on charges of murder, armed assault to murder, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, in connection with the death of Savain’s mother, Marie Luxama, 58, of Malden.

Savain will be held and evaluated for competency before a judge will address the question of bail. Malden District Court Judge Emily Karstetter today scheduled Savain’snext court date for Monday, July 6.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., yesterday, the Malden Police Department received two separate 911 calls for 236/238 Main Street. One call was for a well-being check for the resident, Marie Luxama. The second 911 call was for a disturbance involving the landlord and Sharlyn Savain.

When first responders arrived at the scene they found Luxama suffering from multiple stab wounds inside the apartment. Authorities say a knife was used in the attack. Luxama was transported to Whidden Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Savain was placed in custody at the scene.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This incident is being investigated by the Malden Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.
