Woman Arraigned For Allegedly Embezzling $211,000

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Darlene Ryan, 53, of Woburn, has been arraigned on charges of larceny over $250 by a single scheme and making false entries in corporate books (6 counts).

Middlesex Superior Court Clerk Magistrate Michael Sullivan released Ryan on personal recognizance with conditions to include she stay away from her former place of employment, check in with probation weekly, and sign a waiver of rendition. The next court hearing in the defendant’s case is scheduled for Thursday, July 2.

“This woman allegedly used her position as a bookkeeper to steal from her employer,” said District Attorney Ryan. “She is accused of making personal unreimbursed credit card charges so she could take trips, eat out, and buy expensive items. It’s clear from the evidence we have that she went to great lengths to hide her activities, in some instances, allegedly inflating the amount being spent by her coworkers on their corporate credit cards to conceal the fact she was spending money on herself.”

Concord Police Chief Joseph O’Connor added, “The arraignment of Darlene Ryan marks another step in holding her accountable for the crimes she committed. I wish to commend Sergeant Joseph Morahan and the members of Middlesex District Attorney’s Office who successfully collaborated on this case.”

From approximately 2003 to 2014, the defendant allegedly defrauded her employer, M.J. Bradley & Associates of Concord, of a total of more than $211,000 by charging personal expenses to her business credit card.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

These incidents have been investigated by the Concord Police Department.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Graham Van Epps. The Victim Witness Advocate is Lesia Schymonowytsch.
