Winthrop Woman Arraigned Following Multi-Car Collision

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Lillian Claudio, 35, of Winthrop, was arraigned in Cambridge District Court today on charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle under the influence causing serious bodily injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a personal injury, leaving the scene of property damage, endangering a child while operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, operating a motor vehicle while carrying a child age 8-12 without a fastened seat belt, and operating a motor vehicle while carrying a child under the age of 8 without a car seat.

Judge Roanne Sragow set bail at $100,000 cash and ordered the defendant to be fitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet and remain under house arrest, to submit to testing four times a day with an in-home Sobrietor, and to have no contact with any witnesses not known to the defendant. The next scheduled hearing in this case is Tuesday, October 27.

“This was a demonstration by the defendant of a complete disregard for the safety of others, including the lives of young children. The defendant allegedly ignored car seat and seatbelt laws designed to protect and save lives,” said District Attorney Marian Ryan. “The defendant was allegedly cognizant of the damage that she had caused, but still attempted to flee the scene of the accident without taking responsibility for her actions.”

On Saturday, September 26, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Arlington Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Warren Street and Wyman Street in Arlington. The defendant had allegedly collided with a motor vehicle, and, while attempting to flee the scene of the accident collided with two more motor vehicles. Multiple parties involved sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals. One victim was ejected through his windshield and suffered severe head trauma. He remains in intensive care.

The Arlington Police Department and Massachusetts State Police are investigating this incident.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
