Waltham Man Pleads Guilty In Armed Robbery And Carjacking

WOBURN - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that a Waltham man has pled guilty to charges in connection with an armed robbery and carjacking on December 30, 2012 in Waltham.

Luis Fuentes, 35, of Waltham pled guilty in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn to charges of armed robbery, carjacking while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and making threats. Judge Kathe Tuttman sentenced Fuentes to five to seven years in state prison to be followed by three years of probation.

“This was a terrifying encounter for a man who was only trying to do his job,” said District Attorney Ryan. “An employee of a Chinese restaurant was delivering food to a home when he was approached, pushed to the ground, and threatened. This was a chilling ordeal and fortunately the restaurant employee was not hurt.”

Waltham Police Chief Keith MacPherson added, “I am pleased at the decision by this defendant to plead guilty. Evidence obtained by detectives clearly showed that Luis Fuentes was involved in this serious crime and justice has been served in his case.”

Evidence gathered during the investigation showed that an employee of the Tiki House Restaurant in Waltham was delivering an order to 148 Ash Street on December 30, 2012 at 12:30 a.m., when the employee was approached by Fuentes and an accomplice. The accomplice was holding a handgun and made threatening comments to the restaurant employee before taking the employee’s wallet and removing approximately $700.

After the robbery, Fuentes drove off with his accomplice in the restaurant employee’s car in the direction of Moody Street. Shortly thereafter, officers with the Waltham Police Department found the vehicle parked at 11 Alder Street. Officers followed foot prints in the snow to a nearby residence. After gaining entry, the officers found Luis Fuentes who was subsequently identified by the restaurant employee as one of his assailants. Fuentes was placed under arrest. The accomplice in this crime has not been apprehended.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Craig Estes. The Victim Witness Advocate is Danielle DeMeo.
