Two Convicted In Connection With Billerica Home Invasion During Which Man Was Killed

WOBURN - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that two men have been convicted of charges in connection with a home invasion in Billerica on July 7, 2012 during which Quintin Koehler, 22, of Billerica was killed.

Peter Bin, 27, of Peabody, was convicted by a jury in Middlesex Superior Court on charges of first degree felony murder, home invasion, and attempted armed robbery.  Judge Kathe Tuttman ordered Bin to be continued to be held without bail.  Bin is scheduled to be sentenced on January 5, 2015.

Gabriel Arias, 22, of Lynn, was convicted by a jury in Middlesex Superior Court on a charge of misleading a police investigation for lying about his presence at the scene that evening.  Judge Tuttman revoked Arias's bail and he is scheduled to be sentenced on January 5, 2015.

"This was a brazen calculated attack," said District Attorney Ryan.  "Peter Bin was part of a scheme to carry out an armed robbery in a private home.  When two residents fought to defend themselves, the home invaders shot and killed Quintin Koehler."

According to authorities, on July 7, 2012, at approximately 3:55 a.m. BillericaPolice responded to 795 Boston Road for a report of a shooting.  Officers discovered the victim, Quintin Koehler, evidencing a gunshot wound.  The victim was transported to Lahey Clinic where he was pronounced dead.  The Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be a homicide.

Evidence presented during trial showed that Bin and Arias broke into Koehler's home in the morning of July 7 with intent to rob the victim.  Authorities believe the home was targeted because the defendants believed marijuana and money would be present at the home.  The victim and a witness heard someone enter the home, approached the intruders, and a fight ensued. 

The Assistant District Attorneys assigned to the case are David Solet and Bethany Stevens.  The Victim Witness Advocate is Kathleen Keefe.  The case was investigated by Billerica Police and State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.
