Suspect in Lowell Hit-And-Run Arraigned

WOBURN – Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Alexandre Deoliveira, 22, of Lowell, was arraigned today in Lowell District Court on charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury and leaving the scene of property damage in connection with two alleged non-fatal hit-and-runs that took place in Lowell last night.

Judge Neal Hourihan set bail at $5,000 cash and ordered the defendant to not drive and to stay away from, and have no contact with, the victims. The next scheduled hearing in this case is Friday, February 19.

On January 25, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Lowell Police responded to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Thorndike and Highland Street in Lowell. The driver of the motor vehicle had allegedly fled the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found an injured man lying in the street. Emergency personnel rushed the victim to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.

At approximately the same time, Lowell Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run on Highland Street where the defendant allegedly struck another motor vehicle and left the scene. The victims involved did not require medical attention.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Whitney Williams.
