Suspect Held Without Bail For Allegedly Raping Teenager Found In Driveway

WOBURN - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Sami Sherif, 18, of Everett will be held in custody until a scheduled 58a hearing on Wednesday, April 1, at 11am in in Malden District Court. Sherif faces a charge of rape in connection with allegedly sexually assaulting a teenager, 18, who was found unresponsive in the driveway of a home on Appleton Street in Everett on Saturday, March 7. Sherif was arrested and booked at the Everett Police Station on Friday, March 27.

"This victim was assaulted and then left outside on the ground,” said District Attorney Ryan. “Doctors who treated her at the hospital say she was severely hypothermic with a weak heartbeat and a temperature of 77 degrees. While she fortunately is home from the hospital now, she is still recovering from the trauma she experienced. And while the circumstances of her assault are believed to be known, there is still an active investigation into what occurred hours earlier at a gathering she attended in the neighborhood.”

Everett Police Chief Steven Mazzie added, “Detectives with the Everett Police Department continue to look into what occurred at a party which was held in the neighborhood before this woman was found outside. We do know that there was an event which involved alcohol and that minors were drinking. We continue to look into the circumstances and the investigation remains active.”

On Saturday, March 7, at approximately 6:45 a.m., a woman was found unconscious on the driveway of a home at 32 Appleton Street in Everett and a resident of the property says the woman’s clothing was in disarray and blood was found near her. The victim was then transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where a test at approximately 7:15 a.m., indicated the victim had a blood alcohol level of .237 mg/dl. Medical professionals gave the victim a thirty percent chance of survival and she was unconscious for two days. The victim’s condition steadily improved and she is now home from the hospital.

Authorities interviewed a member of the victim’s family and interviewed individuals who were with the victim earlier in the evening. Detectives were told that the victim had been drinking at a residence on Waters Avenue in Everett hours before she was found outside. In addition, an adult told police that approximately 40 young people were at the home that evening. Accounts given to police indicate that the defendant left the party with the victim and then he returned to the party by himself.

This case is currently being investigated by the Everett Police Department with the assistance of Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office and in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Beth Dunigan. The Victim Witness Advocate is Kristen Chamberlain.
