Suspect In Everett Football Player Stabbing Arraigned

WOBURN - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Osmin Murcia, 19, of Everett, was arraigned today in Malden District Court on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and armed assault with intent to murder or maim in connection with the November 1 stabbing of an Everett High School student.

“In this case an encounter allegedly began with an exchange of words then turned violent,” stated District Attorney Marian Ryan. "As a result of the physical alteration that took place, the victim sustained serious injuries which could have been much worse or even fatal.”

Judge Dominic Paratore ordered the defendant held without bail pending a 58Adangerousness hearing. The next scheduled hearing in this case is Friday, December 4 at 9:00 a.m.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, several individuals encountered a number of Everett High School football players at the corner of Broadway and Chestnut Street in Everett, where an exchange of words allegedly took place that became physical. During the altercation, the defendant allegedly stabbed a 16-year-old male who had intervened to break up the fight. The victim sustained significant wounds to his hand, including a severed tendon between his thumb and forefinger, as well a stab wound to the back. The victim was then transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he underwent multiple surgeries and remained hospitalized for several days.

Everett Police arrested the defendant today.

This incident is being investigated by the Everett Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
