Statement on Fatal Motor Vehicle Incident in North Reading

NORTH READING - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and North Reading Chief of Police Mark Zimmerman have confirmed the death of an 80 year old woman who was involved in a motor vehicle incident last Wednesday night.

At approximately 7:48 p.m. on November 29, North Reading Police responded to a report of a woman trapped underneath a car in her driveway, near the corner of Fieldcrest and Hollywood terraces. Upon arrival, emergency crews freed the victim from underneath a Buick Regal, and transported her to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the car belonged to the victim and that there was no occupant in the car at the time the victim was struck.  The preliminary information is that the vehicle was rolled backwards and struck her.  The incident is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Sections (CARS) to determine what caused the car to roll.

This is an open and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the North Reading Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police CARS. No foul play is suspected.
