Statement on Ayer Fatal Drowning

AYER – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Ayer Chief William Murray have confirmed that today at approximately 4:45 p.m., Massachusetts State Police and Ayer Police recovered the body of a 49-year-old male in Grove Pond. A snowmobile, partially frozen, was found near the body.

On January 29, 2020, the Ayer Police Department was notified that a 49-year-old male had been missing for over a week. Preliminary investigation suggested that the male’s last location was in the area of Grove Pond, where he was believed to have been operating a snowmobile out on the ice. Investigators observed a snowmobile track entering onto Grove Pond, with no signs of exit from the pond.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The Massachusetts State Police Dive Team, Ayer Police Department, Ayer Fire Department, Massachusetts Environmental Police, the Webster Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office assisted with this incident.
