Public's Assistance Sought: 2013 Unsolved Malden Murder

WOBURN—Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis, and other authorities are requesting assistance from the public regarding the murder of a store owner in Malden on January 29, 2013.

It has been two and a half years since the shooting death of Shawn Clark at Patriot Skateboards at 804 Main Street in Malden. Since the incident occurred, Malden Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office have devoted many resources and hours to investigate the circumstances of Clark’s death. Authorities have made some progress, but no one has been charged in connection with the crime.

“This weekend is especially sorrowful for members of Shawn Clark’s family,” said District Attorney Ryan. “On August 16, Shawn Clark would have celebrated a birthday. Over the course of time Shawn’s absence remains deeply felt and the lack of an arrest in his death is especially hard. We know there must be people out there who know something or saw something when the store robbery was taking place. We appeal to their conscience and to their sense of justice and ask them to come forward so that his friends and family will have some peace of mind and the criminals responsible can be held accountable.”

Police Chief Molis adds, "Shawn Clark was a devoted husband, father and friend. He was also a man who proudly served his country as a Marine. He placed his life on the line during that service only to have it taken away in the course of a robbery. This is a crime that remains a priority of the Malden Police Department. I remain hopeful and confident that through the indefatigable efforts of the investigators from the Malden Police Department, Detectives from the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, and the assistance of the public that these murderers will be brought to justice."

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office is once again calling the public’s attention to store video surveillance on the day the murder occurred in an effort to identify two suspects who were involved in the incident. Please note in particular the facial and bodily appearances of the suspects and the clothing that they are wearing.

Based on the video surveillance inside the store and witness interviews, it is believed that the two males in the video entered the store shortly after 12:30 p.m., on January 29, 2013, intending to rob Clark, the proprietor. During the confrontation, Clark was shot multiple times by one of the two males. Both males then fled the scene.

The Massachusetts State Police and Malden Police Department are actively investigating the case and pursuing leads.

Members of the public with information they believe may be helpful to the investigation may contact Massachusetts State Police at (781) 897-6600 or Malden Police at (781) 397-7171.

The prosecutors assigned to this case are Assistant District Attorneys Michael Pelgroand Elisha Willis.
