"Person Of Interest" In Cambridge Shooting Was Wanted In Middlesex

WOBURN - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Nicholas Cammarata, 30, of Saugus had active warrants in Middlesex County which were issued on March 12 because Cammarata was in violation of a condition of bail which was ordered in a pending criminal case. In that case, Cammarata had been arraigned on charges of assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a dangerous weapon (2 counts).

Cammarata has been identified by the Cambridge Police Department as the individual found deceased last night in a hotel room in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

"Active investigations are continuing," said District Attorney Ryan. "Working with our law enforcement partners, we will be assessing forensic results, ballistics information, and interviewing individuals before any conclusions are made concerning the circumstances which occurred on March 20."

The Cambridge Police Department considers Cammarata “a person of interest” in connection with an incident yesterday involving a breaking and entering in progress report in the vicinity of Fifth and Gore Streets which then led to a shooting involving a suspect and a police officer. The officer was not injured.

The Cambridge incident and the death of Cammarata in New Hampshire are still active investigations.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Nicole Allain.
