On National Puppy Day, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan Seeks Submissions for Names for New Comfort Dog

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan today announced that she is asking children across Middlesex County to help in naming their office’s new comfort dog, a male black lab.

Submissions may be made online through the Middlesex District Attorney’s website contact form here or by mail to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, 15 Commonwealth Avenue, Woburn, MA 01801.  People making submissions are asked to note “Puppy Naming Contest” on the correspondence. 

The newest member of the District Attorney’s Office, is expected to join the team in April where he will be in training for several months.  He will work with both employees and across the 54 cities and towns that make up Middlesex County.

Names must be one or two syllables and must be received by April 3, 2021.

“The benefit of dogs in the aftermath of a stressful or traumatic situation has been well demonstrated ranging from reduced anxiety and stress to increased confidence. As we continue to improve the way we do our work, I am looking forward to starting this new initiative. This is a first for us and we hope that our new dog will help us to promote wellness in our office and travel with us to incidents across the county to help our law enforcement partners and community stakeholders,” said District Attorney Ryan.

The winner will receive a prize and a visit from the new puppy, if possible and while taking into consideration COVID-19 safety protocols.  The winner will be announced next month when the puppy officially joins the office.

The puppy, an English Labrador, was donated by Peggi and David Brogan of Boonefield Labradors in Rindge, New Hampshire.
