Medford Woman Held Without Bail In Stabbing

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Laura Maloney, 49, of Medford will be held without bail following Maloney’s arraignment today on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed assault to murder. Somerville District Court Judge Maurice Flynn, who presided at the arraignment, scheduled a dangerousness hearing pursuant to G.L. 276 s. 58A for Thursday, March 12.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation," said District Attorney Ryan. "We are continuing to assess the circumstances surrounding this stabbing, speaking with potential witnesses, and gathering evidence."

Authorities say that on Sunday, March 8, at approximately 4:50 a.m., the Medford Police Department received a phone call from Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett stating that officials were treating a patient with a stab wound to the abdomen after an incident in Medford.

After further investigation, officials learned that the alleged assailant and the injured man had been living at 59 Rockwell Avenue in Medford. Officers who visited that residence Sunday morning spoke to the defendant who allegedly said she had argued with the man she has been living with. Police officers seized a knife from the apartment.

The victim is hospitalized and listed in “stable condition.”

This incident is being investigated by the Medford Police Department.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor who handled the arraignment today was Assistant District Attorney Siobhan Kelly.
