Medford Woman Held Without Bail In Connection With Stabbing

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Laura Maloney, 49, of Medford will be held without bail following a dangerousness hearing today pursuant to G.L. 276 s. 58A. Somerville District Court Judge Joseph Jennings III ordered Maloney held without bail until Maloney’s next scheduled court hearing on April 10. Maloney is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed assault to murder.

“We believe this was a domestic violence incident,” said District Attorney Ryan. "Detectives who have looked at evidence and conducted interviews have concluded that after an argument this woman stabbed a man she had been in a relationship with.”

Authorities say that on Sunday, March 8, at approximately 4:50 a.m., the Medford Police Department received a phone call from Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett stating that officials were treating a patient with a stab wound to the abdomen after an incident in Medford. After further investigation, officials learned that Maloney and the injured man had been living at 59 Rockwell Avenue in Medford. Police officers seized a knife from the apartment.

This incident is being investigated by the Medford Police Department.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to handle this dangerousness hearing today was Assistant District Attorney Brian Doxtader.
