Man Indicted In Connection With Everett Murder

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that RigobertoEscobar, 26, of Everett has been indicted by a Middlesex County Grand Jury in connection with the murder of a man found dead in Everett on Saturday, January 17. Escobar is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, April 6, at 9 a.m., in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn on charges of first degree murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and possession of ammunition.

"This defendant’s anger reportedly got out of control,” said District Attorney Ryan. "He allegedly went on a determined mission to follow the victim outside a home after an argument, chase the man down, and shoot him to death on the street.”

Everett Police Chief Steven Mazzie added, “Investigatory work done after the victim was found points to this defendant as the perpetrator of the crime. The details of what happened are chilling in that the murder occurred after a chase in which the victim was just trying to get away.”

At approximately 1:55 a.m., Saturday, January 17, law enforcement officers responded to a call of shots fired at 8 Elmwood Street in Everett. When police officers arrived, they found Magno Sosa, 32, of Nantucket deceased and lying on the ground.

This case is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Everett Police Department.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Jessica Noble. The Victim Witness Advocate is Kristen Chamberlain.
