Man Found Guilty Of Trafficking In Oxycodone

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Steven Marcelin, 27, of Boston, has been found guilty in Middlesex Superior Court of trafficking in more than 100 grams of oxycodone which would have a street value of $30,000-$35,000. Judge Thomas Billings scheduled sentencing for Monday, March 23.

"My office will continue to collaborate with our law enforcement partners to remove as many unprescribed opiates from the streets as possible," said District Attorney Ryan. "We will continue to aggressively prosecute those who benefit financially from the misery of others. We appreciate the tips about suspicious activity, such as that received in this case, because very often, if someone sees something happening and has a feeling that things just don't sit right, their feelings can be accurate."

Authorities arrested Marcelin in Woburn on November 2, 2011 after police had watched Marcelin pick up a package from the front porch of a home. The package later was found to contain a large amount of Oxycodone pills which the Massachusetts State Crime Laboratory determined was 105.79 grams of Oxycodone. The investigation was launched in this case in October 2011 when members of the United States Postal Service noticed a number of suspicious packages being shipped from Las Vegas, Nevada, to a home on Prospect Street in Woburn.

This case was investigated by Southern Middlesex Regional Drug Task Force, Massachusetts State Police, and the United States Postal Service.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Rachel Perlman.
