Man to be Arraigned in Connection with Fatal Stabbing in Somerville

SOMERVILLE – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Chief of Police Charles Femino have confirmed that Darien Burns, 53 of Somerville has been arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury in connection with the fatal stabbing of Joseph Muzzi, 33 of Weymouth that occurred last night inside a laundromat on Main Street in Somerville.

Last night around 7:00 p.m. Somerville Police responded to Main Street for a reported stabbing. Upon arrival police located the victim suffering from an apparent stab wound.  He was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he later died. The suspect,  identified as Darien Burns, remained on scene and was arrested.

This case has been referred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and additional charges are possible.  This matter, including the motive, is still under investigation by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Somerville Police and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office.

Darien Burns will be arraigned this morning in Somerville District Court.
