Man Arrested In Connection With Murder In Everett

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that a resident of Everett was arrested this morning in connection with the murder of a man found dead in Everett on Saturday, January 17.

Authorities say that at approximately 4:30 a.m., today, Rigoberto Escobar, 26, of Everett, was placed under arrest. Escobar will be held at the Everett Police Station until Escobar’s scheduled arraignment on a charge of murder on Tuesday, January 20, in Malden District Court.

"While this is still an active investigation," said District Attorney Ryan. "We are confident that the person responsible for this violent death is in custody. Investigators will continue to evaluate evidence gathered at the scene and seek information from individuals who may have known the victim in order to determine what may have led up to the shooting yesterday morning."

Everett Police Chief Steven Mazzie added, "I am extremely proud of the investigators from the Everett Police Department and Massachusetts State Police who followed the early leads that resulted in an arrest in this case."

At approximately 1:55 a.m., Saturday, January 17, law enforcement officers responded to an incident at 2 Elmwood Street in Everett. At that address, an individual later identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as Magno Sosa, 32, of Nantucket was found. The victim had sustained gunshot wounds to the head.

This case is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Everett Police Department.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Jessica Noble. The Victim Witness Advocate is Kristen Chamberlain.
