Man Arrested in Connection with 2018 Fatal Lowell Shooting

LOWELL – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent Kelly Richardson have confirmed that Joseph McGillicuddy, 22 of Lowell, was arrested today in connection with the February 17, 2018 fatal shooting of Anthony Luna, 24, of Lowell.

McGillicuddy was directly indicted by a Middlesex Grand Jury on March 7, 2019 and will be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court tomorrow on the charge of murder.

On February 17, 2018, Lowell Police responded to a report of a shooting on O’Connell Street and Fay Street in Lowell. Two men, who were known to the victim, Christian Tripp-Kirwin, 21, of Lowell, and Joseph Luna, 21, of Lowell, were subsequently charged with firearms charges in relation to the death.  However, the investigation into the shooting remained open and ongoing.

McGillicuddy was arrested today at a residence on Ames Hill Road in Tewksbury by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office and the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section with assistance from Tewksbury Police, Lowell Police, NEMLEC (The Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council) and the Middlesex Sheriff’s Warrant Apprehension Unit.
