Man Arrested, Charged with Murder in Connection with November Shooting at 7-Eleven in Malden

MALDEN - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Malden Chief of Police Kevin Molis have announced that Antonio Rufo-Sanon, 19 of Somerville, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with fatally shooting Daquelle Matthews, 22 of Boston, in Malden last month.

Rufo-Sanon is expected to be arraigned today in Malden District Court.

On November 20, 2021, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Malden police responded to a 911 call reporting shots being fired in front of a 7-Eleven located on Salem Street in Malden. Upon arrival police located Daquelle Matthews suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, he was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The subsequent investigation revealed that on the night of the shooting Antonio Rufo-Sanon allegedly arrived at the 7-Eleven as a passenger in a vehicle with other individuals. Based on a review of surveillance video, the victim was standing outside the store when he communicated with the men in the car. Antonio Rufo-Sanon then allegedly fired a gun from the vehicle fatally shooting him. After the shooting the men allegedly fled the scene in that vehicle.  As a result of reviewing video surveillance and interviewing witnesses, investigators were able to identify the suspect vehicle and locate it at a Somerville residence.

In the following days investigators were able to identify the alleged driver of the vehicle as Isaiah Sautier and conduct forensic analysis on the vehicle to identify Antonio Rufo-Sanon.

Sautier was arrested on charges of accessory after the fact to murder and accessory after the fact to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.  He was arraigned in Malden District Court on December 2, 2021.

Antonio Rufo-Sanon was located this morning at a Somerville residence and arrested without incident.

This case was investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Malden Police. The Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, The Massachusetts State Police STOP Team, Somerville Police and the United States Marshal’s Service assisted with the arrest.
