Man Arraigned In Connection With Murder In Everett

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that a man from Everett will be held without bail following his arrest in connection with the murder of a man found dead in Everett on Saturday, January 17.

Rigoberto Escobar, 26, of Everett, was arraigned today on charges of first degree murder, possession of a firearm without a license, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. Malden District Court Judge Lee G. Johnson ordered Escobar held without bail until Escobar’s next scheduled court appearance on February 19.

"This crime was a violent merciless killing," said District Attorney Ryan. "Last weekend we believe this defendant pulled a gun on the victim and shot the victim at close range. We are pleased that the defendant will be held without bail."

At approximately 1:55 a.m., Saturday, January 17, law enforcement officers responded to an incident at 2 Elmwood Street in Everett. At that address, an individual later identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as Magno Sosa, 32, of Nantucket was found. The victim had sustained gunshot wounds to the head.

This case is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Everett Police Department.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Jessica Noble. The Victim Witness Advocate is Kristen Chamberlain.
