Man Arraigned For Brandishing Knife At Emerson Hospital

WOBURN - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Timothy Cullinane, 59, of Pepperell, was arraigned today in Concord District Court on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon (2 counts), threats (2 counts), and disorderly conduct. Judge Neil Hourihan ordered Cullinane to remain in custody until the next scheduled hearing on Tuesday, April 21, 2015. The Commonwealth's right to bail was reserved.

"It is very fortunate that this incident ended with no one hurt," said District Attorney Ryan. "This man was described as upset this morning and police allege that when officers arrived on the scene, Cullinane pointed a knife at them and made threats. Officers showed restraint, spoke to this defendant, and eventually succeeded in having him surrender."

Concord Police Chief Joseph O'Connor added, "We appreciate the collaboration with the Middlesex District Attorney's Office to appropriately charge and assist in the placement of Mr. Culliane."

Cullinane was arrested this morning after arriving on the property of Emerson Hospital just after 8 a.m. When police arrived they observed Culliane outside and when they approached the defendant they say he took a knife from his pocket and threatened to hurt officers if they approached. Law enforcement officers engaged Culliane in conversation and eventually Cullinane put the knife down and surrendered.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This incident is being investigated by the Concord Police Department. The prosecutor who was assigned to this arraignment was Assistant District Attorney Nils Lundblad.
