Man Arraigned In Alleged Domestic Violence Incident In Newton

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Bruce Holloway, 58, of Boston, was arraigned today in Newton District Court in Woburn in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident overnight in Newton.

Holloway, formerly employed by the Boston Police Department, faces charges of assault and battery on a family or household member. Middlesex District Court Judge DyanneKlein ordered Holloway to remain in custody until a 58a hearing scheduled for Monday, February 23.

“While the allegations against this defendant are troubling in many ways it is a particular concern that this violence may have occurred in front of a child,” said District Attorney Ryan. “This alleged incident is a sad reminder that there are many victims in a situation of domestic violence. We continue to encourage anyone who may be in need of assistance to avail themselves of the many resources available, whether it be to ask questions or to seek special referrals or help.”

Authorities say that just before 1 a.m., today, a woman came into the Newton Police Department to report a domestic violence incident and to request an emergency restraining order. She stated that she had a verbal and physical altercation with her boyfriend during which he shouted, swore at her, pushed her against a wall, and hit her on the forehead.

The Newton Police Department obtained an emergency restraining order and the defendant was arrested at this home in Boston.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The Newton Police Department is investigating this incident.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Susan Harris. The Victim Witness Advocate is Stacey Desnoyers.
