Malden Man Sentenced To Prison After Being Convicted In Sexual Assault

WOBURN– Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that a Malden man was sentenced today to state prison following his conviction earlier this month on charges that he sexually assaulted and beat a woman in October 2012.

Jean Descollines, 36, of Malden, was sentenced by Middlesex Superior Court Judge Diane Kottmyer to two years and one day in state prison after being convicted on a charge of indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14 and, in addition, Descollines was sentenced to three years probation following his conviction on charges of assault to rape and assault and battery.

Judge Kottmyer set conditions of probation which include that Descollines attend the Certified Batterers Program, that he have no contact with the victim in this incident, and that he register as a sex offender.

“This defendant attacked a woman who had been his girlfriend because he was angry that she ended their relationship,” said District Attorney Ryan.  “When the victim entered a bathroom after talking to Descollines, he followed her in, closed the door, and physically and sexually assaulted her.  Domestic violence is about power and control and unfortunately this incident is just the latest example of a case where violence occurs because one party in a relationship feels he can no longer control that relationship.”

Descollines was arrested on October 28, 2012 after the victim reported the incident to police.  Following a trial which began on December 15, 2014, a jury in Middlesex Superior Court convicted Descollines on December 18 on charges of indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14, assault to rape, and assault and battery.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Carrie Spiros.  The Victim Witness Advocate was Helena Clarke.
