Malden Man Arraigned for Trafficking More Than 100 Grams of Heroin

SOMERVILLE – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Somerville Police Chief Charles Femino announce today that a Malden man has been arraigned on charges of trafficking in heroin and cocaine.

Steven Pinson, 37, of Malden, has been arraigned in Somerville District Court on charges of trafficking in heroin and trafficking in cocaine.  Somerville District Court Judge Neil Walker set the defendant’s bail at $5,000 cash.

His next court date is April 25 for a probable cause hearing.

“We allege that this defendant was trafficking in large amounts of heroin and cocaine,” said District Attorney Ryan.  “The dangers of illegal drug use and abuse, especially the use of heroin, have, unfortunately, become very well known in recent weeks.  Every day, throughout Middlesex County, our police departments are working hard to halt the efforts of those who are bringing these deadly drugs into our communities.  I commend the officers from the Somerville Police Department for their quick and efficient response that lead them to investigate and apprehend a suspected drug trafficker in their city.”

According to authorities, they received information that a sale of heroin would occur at a particular time and location in their city.  Upon setting up surveillance in that area, police allege that they observed a drug transaction take place.  Within the car that the transaction allegedly occurred, authorities located an electronic “hide” which contained several “milk bottles.”  It is alleged that contained within those “milk bottles” was more than 114 grams of heroin and more than 68 grams of cocaine.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to the case is Assistant District Attorney Stephen Gilpatric of the Special Investigations Unit.
