Malden Hit-And-Run Suspect Arraigned

Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Malden Chief of Police Kevin Molishave announced that Amar Miletic, 24, of Saugus, was arraigned today on charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident causing personal injury and death and a crosswalk violation in Malden District Court.

“In this case the defendant allegedly left the scene after fatally injuring 71 year old YaaiChen as she made her way across the street in the crosswalk,,” said District Attorney Ryan. “Our thoughts remain with the family as they grieve the loss of Ms. Chen.”

Judge Dominic Paratore ordered the bail set at $10,000 with the condition that the defendant does not drive. The next scheduled hearing in this case is March 2, 2016.

On Sunday, December 27, 2015 at approximately 7:20 p.m. Malden Police responded to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle. Upon arrival authorities found the victim, a 71-year-old female, had been struck while in the crosswalk and that she had sustained serious injuries. The vehicle that struck the victim allegedly fled the scene following the collision. The victim was transported to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), the Malden Police Department, and the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office began an investigation which ultimately led to the charges against this defendant.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
