Lowell Man To Remain In Custody In Connection With November Murder

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Luis Rodriguez, 37, of Lowell was arraigned today on a charge of first degree murder. Middlesex Superior Court Judge Heidi Brieger ordered Rodriguez to remain in custody until the next scheduled court hearing on Tuesday, April 7.

“This was a brutal assault and murder," said District Attorney Ryan. “This suspect allegedly stabbed the man he was living with repeatedly. The victim's wounds were extensive and some were deep and penetrating.”

On Thursday, November 6, 2014, at approximately 6:15 a.m., the Lowell Police Department received information that a stabbing had taken place at 23 Pratt Avenue. The officers had to forcibly enter the apartment and found Robert Sienkiewicz on the floor, unresponsive, with multiple stab wounds. Police officers, acting on information about a possible suspect, also went to an address on Cashin Street and there they found Rodriguez, where he was placed under arrest.

An autopsy on the victim was conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, who determined that the victim died of dozens of blunt force trauma wounds.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case is being investigated by the Lowell Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Kontz. The Victim Witness Advocate is Alyssa Donovan.
