Lowell Man Indicted For November 2014 Murder

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that a Middlesex County Grand Jury has indicted Luis Rodriguez, 37, of Lowell on a charge of first degree murder. Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in Middlesex Superior Court in Lowell to be arraigned on Tuesday, March 17.

“This involves an extremely violent attack upon a household member," said District Attorney Ryan. “The defendant is alleged to have savagely attacked his roommate before he fled the apartment. The Medical Examiner found the victim had a significant number of stab wounds to his entire body, and in many cases the knife penetrated so deeply it struck major organs.”

On Thursday, November 6, 2014, at approximately 6:15 a.m., the Lowell Police Department received information that a stabbing had taken place at 23 Pratt Avenue. The officers had to forcibly enter the apartment and found Robert Sienkiewicz on the floor, unresponsive, with multiple stab wounds. Police officers, acting on information about a possible suspect, also went to an address on Cashin Street and there they found Rodriguez, where he was placed under arrest. An autopsy on the victim was conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, who determined that the victim died of dozens of blunt force trauma wounds.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case is being investigated by the Lowell Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Kontz. The Victim Witness Advocate is Alyssa Donovan.
