Lowell Man Indicted on Murder Charge in Connection with Lowell Fatal Stabbing

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced today that a Lowell man has been indicted on a charge of murder in connection with the stabbing death of a Lawrence man.

Robert Weidman, 50, of Lowell, has been indicted by a Middlesex County Grand Jury on charges of murder in the first degree, armed assault with intent to rob, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

An arraignment date has not yet been scheduled.

“We allege that the defendant stabbed and killed the victim during a robbery,” said District Attorney Ryan.  “Detectives assigned to my office, working closely with officers from the Lowell Police Department, quickly and efficiently investigated this matter, identified a suspect, and built a solid case.  Those collaborative efforts led us to pursue these very serious charges.”

According to authorities, at approximately 10:15pm on July 10, Lowell Police received a 911 call reporting a stabbing.  Police responded to Woburn Street, near Route 495, where they located the victim suffering from apparent stab wounds.  The victim was transported to Lahey Clinic in Burlington where he subsequently died at approximately 4:00am the following morning.

Initially, the victim was identified as Hector Almedina, 27, of Lawrence.  While attempting to locate next of kin for Hector Almedina, local authorities learned the true identity of the victim was Risiannery Bienvenido, 27, of Lawrence.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and determined that the cause of the victim’s death was multiple stab wounds and the manner of death was homicide.

Lowell Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the District Attorney’s Office launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances of the incident.  Through that investigation it was allegedly discovered that the defendant had stabbed the victim numerous times following an attempted robbery.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The defendant has been held without bail since his arraignment in Lowell District Court on a charge of murder in the first degree on July 15.

The case was investigated by Lowell Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

The prosecutors assigned to the case are Assistant District Attorney Tom O’Reilly and Assistant District Attorney Gina Kwon.  The Victim Witness Advocate is Katie Keefe.
