Lowell Man Charged with Murder in Lowell Fatal Stabbing

LOWELL- Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent William Taylor announced today that a Lowell man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the stabbing death of a man discovered on Woburn Street in Lowell.

Robert Weidman, 50, of Lowell, was arrested early this morning and charged with murder.  

The defendant is expected to be arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court.  He is currently in custody under guard at a local hospital.

According to authorities, at approximately 10:15pm on Thursday evening, Lowell Police received a 911 call from a man identifying himself as the victim of a stabbing.  Police responded to Woburn Street, near Route 495, where they located the victim with apparent stab wounds. He was transported to Lahey Clinic in Burlington where he subsequently died at approximately 4:00am on Friday morning.    

The Office of the Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of the victim's death.

Lowell Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the District Attorney’s Office launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances of the incident.  Through that investigation it was allegedly discovered that the defendant had stabbed the victim numerous times following an attempted robbery.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case is being investigated by Lowell Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
