Lowell Man Charged in Connection With 2018 Motor Vehicle Homicide

LOWELL – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Superintendent of Police Raymond Kelly Richardson have confirmed that Daniel Wamiti, 35, of Lowell, was arraigned yesterday in Lowell District Court on the charge of motor vehicle homicide in connection with a 2018 crash that killed Juan Ramon Rivera, 52, of Lowell.

Judge Patrick Malone ordered Mr. Wamiti not to drive without a valid license. The next date in this case is March 12, 2020.

On July 25, 2018, at approximately 7:04 a.m., Lowell Police responded to a 911 call for a report of a motor vehicle crash in the area of Gorham Street and Manchester Street in Lowell. The investigation revealed that a 2012 Honda Accord, being driven by Mr. Wamiti, was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV, being driven from Mr. Rivera, from behind. Mr. Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene.

This case was investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Lowell Police Department.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Marissa Milero. These charges are allegations and the defendant is innocent until proven guilty.
