Lowell Man Arraigned For Assaulting Police Officers

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced that Jesus Ocasio, 34, of Lowell, was arraigned today on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, assault, and malicious and wanton damage to a motor vehicle.

Judge Michael Brooks ordered the defendant held without bail. The next scheduled hearing in this case is Friday, November 6.

On Monday, October 19, at approximately 4:30 p.m. Lowell Police responded to a report of a man who had smashed a driver side window and side mirror of a motor vehicle on Concord Street in Lowell. Upon arrival officers noted that the suspect had allegedly left the scene. At approximately 6:00 p.m., on Concord Street, Lowell Police observed a man matching the description witnesses had provided from the previous incident. An officer approached the defendant to ask questions concerning the earlier reports of property destruction. The defendant then allegedly attacked the officer. Additional officers then arrived on the scene and the defendant allegedly punched and kicked them while resisting arrest. Three police officers sustained non-serious injuries.

The Lowell Police Department is investigating this incident.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Barnes.
