Joint Statement on Lowell Death Investigation

LOWELL – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent Kelly Richardson have confirmed that a death investigation is underway in Lowell. At approximately 3:00 p.m., Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office responded to a report from Lowell Police of a suspicious death on Queen Street in Lowell.

The preliminary investigation suggests that on September 16, 2019 a male who is known to a female resident of the Queen Street residence broke into her home. He allegedly attacked the first floor tenant, a male in his 50s. When the female resident arrived home she discovered the first floor tenant deceased and was then allegedly held within the home against her will and assaulted by Hoeup Honn, 38. When Honn fell asleep the female victim fled the residence and eventually managed to use a neighbor’s phone to contact authorities.

Honn was subsequently taken into police custody without incident. He is presently charged with kidnapping, aggravated rape and assault and battery causing serious bodily injury. He will be arraigned tomorrow in Lowell District Court.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has taken jurisdiction of the decedent. No further information is being released pending notification of next of kin and ruling by the Medical Examiner on cause and manner of death.

This is an open and active investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Lowell Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and additional charges may issue.
