Joint Release - Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Cambridge Under Investigation by Middlesex District Attorney’s Office

Cambridge, Mass., January 4, 2023 – District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow have confirmed a fatal officer-involved shooting which occurred this afternoon in the area of Chestnut Street in Cambridge.
A Cambridge Police Officer shot an adult male, who preliminary information suggests, was in possession of a machete. The male was immediately rendered medical aid by officers until EMS arrived on-scene. He was then transported to a local hospital, where died from his injuries.
Investigators are in the very early stages of this investigation, which is being led by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. Updates will be provided as additional information is able to be released.
