Investigators Asking For Help Locating Suspect in Fatal Malden Shooting

MALDEN - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis are asking for the public’s help locating the suspect wanted in connection with today’s fatal shooting of Erin Fitzgibbon, 30 of Everett.

Investigators announced today that they have obtained a warrant for the arrest of Brian Butler, 30 in connection with fatally shooting Erin Fitzgibbon early this morning inside a Fairmont Street residence.  Butler is described as a white male with brown hair and brown eyes.  He is 6 feet 3 inches tall weighting about 180 pounds.  He also has several distinct tattoos. Butler’s last known address is in Everett.

Anyone with information about Mr. Butler’s whereabouts should not attempt to approach him but should instead immediately call Malden Police at 781-397-7171.

At approximately 7:17 a.m. Malden Police received a 911 call reporting a robbery and that someone had been shot. The caller also said the suspect who is known to the parties in the home and was later identified as Brian Butler. Upon arrival at the scene the alleged suspect had fled and police located Ms. Fitzgibbon suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. She was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where she later died.

The subsequent investigation suggests that Brian Butler allegedly entered the home in possession of a firearm and fired the weapon shooting the victim.  He later fled the scene in possession of the gun and property from the home. Butler has been charged with murder, armed home invasion, armed assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm.

This is an active and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Malden Police and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office.
