Human Remains Found In Cambridge / Man Arrested

WOBURN - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that a suspect has been arrested on charges of accessory after the fact to assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and improper disposal of a body in connection with the discovery of human remains in Cambridge today. The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned in Cambridge District Court on Monday at which time the defendant’s name will be released. The human remains have been identified, however, the victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

“This continues to be an active investigation,” said District Attorney Ryan. “Detectives are continuing to gather evidence in order to determine the circumstances which led to this discovery.”

Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas added, “We're confident that this was not a random act and there is no threat to the public's safety as a suspect has been taken into custody. To provide additional assurance and peace of mind, our officers plan on going door-to-door to speak directly with any neighboring residents to address any questions or concerns they may have. In the interim, if anyone has any information that may assist with the ongoing investigation, please contact the Cambridge Police at 617-349-3300."

Authorities say they received a phone call this morning from someone reporting a suspicious item at an outdoor location at Loughery Way in the area of 225 Binney and 6th Streets in Cambridge. Human remains were discovered in a duffel bag.

Officials say that a video led police officers to a building where body parts were discovered inside.

The Cambridge Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the District Attorney's Office are investigating this incident.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Nicole Allain.
