Former High School Volleyball Coach Arraigned For Sexual Assaults on Youth Players

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced today that a Marlborough man has been arraigned on charges alleging inappropriate physical contact with players on his team while employed as a varsity volleyball coach at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School in Marlborough.

Jeremiah Encarnacion, 30, of Marlborough, was arraigned on charges of indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of fourteen (four counts) and accosting a member of the opposite sex (three counts).

Middlesex Superior Court Assistant Clerk Magistrate Matt Day released the defendant on personal recognizance with the conditions that he comply with GPS monitoring, have no contact with Commonwealth witnesses and not work, or volunteer, with children under the age of 16.

The case is scheduled for a pretrial conference on September 23.

“We allege this defendant inappropriately touched several of his players and made provocative comments to others,” said District Attorney Ryan. “No adult should engage in this alleged behavior, let alone a coach who is supposed to be guiding and leading young people by his example.”

Authorities allege that while he was employed as the varsity girls volleyball coach in 2008 and 2009, Encarnacion made lewd comments to players verbally, and via text message, and had improper physical contact with team members while on school grounds.  The defendant also allegedly engaged in this behavior during bus trips while traveling to away games.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Sarah Fallon. The Victim Witness Advocate is Lesia Schymonowytsch.
