Everett Man Arraigned Following Christmas Day Standoff with Police

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that on Monday, December 28, Mark Lavoine, 53, of Everett, was arraigned in Malden District Court on the charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and disorderly conduct.

Judge Lee Johnson ordered the defendant held pending a 58A dangerousness hearing scheduled for December 30, 2015.

“In this case the defendant allegedly threatened the officers on scene and refused to comply with their requests,” said District Attorney Ryan. “This was a dangerous situation that thankfully ended without anyone getting hurt.”

On Friday, December 25, Everett Police responded to a report of shots fired on Summer Street in Everett. Upon arriving at the scene authorities announced their presence and entered the home of Lavoine. The defendant allegedly refused to comply with police officers’ request that he show his hands and also refused to exit the house. The defendant was allegedly armed and had locked himself in a room at the home stating that he would take officers out if they tried to enter. The standoff ended when a fire was observed in the house and Lavoine came out.

This charge is an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor that handled the arraignment was Assistant District Attorney AliyaKhalidi.
