Chelsea Man Indicted on Murder Charge

WOBURN– A Chelsea man has been indicted for murder in connection with the March 16, 2013 fatal stabbing of Louis Barbosa, 29, of Everett, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan informed the public today.

Derren Molina, 21, of Chelsea, was indicted today by a Middlesex Grand Jury on a charge of first degree murder.

An arraignment date has not been set.

According to authorities, at approximately 1:19 a.m. on March 16, police received a 911 call and responded to 194 Chelsea Street in Everett. Upon their arrival, police discovered a male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim, Louis Barbosa, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances of the fatal stabbing. Through their investigation, which included a review of forensic and physical evidence, and interviews with several witnesses, authorities alleged that the defendant, Derren Molina, stabbed the victim multiple times as he stood outside of a party on Chelsea Street, resulting in his death.

The defendant was arrested March 18 by Massachusetts State Police, Everett Police and Boston Police without incident. Molina was arraigned in Malden District Court on a first degree murder charge and Malden District Court Judge Lee Johnson held the defendant without bail.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutors assigned to this cased are Sean Casey and Steve Loughlin. The victim witness advocate is Rani Scott.
