Charges Filed Against Suspect Who Was Volunteer Coach

Suspect Mark Jenkins scheduled to be arraigned on November 26

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan, Ayer Police Chief William Murray, and Shirley Police Chief Thomas Goulden announced today that charges have been filed against a volunteer coach.

Twenty-three year-old Mark Jenkins of Fitchburg is being charged with indecent assault and battery on a person over fourteen.  Jenkins is scheduled to be arraigned in AyerDistrict Court on November 26, 2014.

The Board of Selectmen in the town of Shirley discussed the allegations at a meeting on November 17 and then announced that Jenkins had been suspended from coaching responsibilities pending the outcome of an investigation by law enforcement authorities.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Laura Miller. 

The investigation into the allegations is being conducted by the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office in cooperation with the Ayer Police Department.

The charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
