Cambridge Teen Dies From Injuries Following Motor Vehicle Crash

CAMBRIDGE – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow have confirmed that Jaden McDaniels, 16, of Cambridge, has died from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle crash that occurred on August 28, 2023 in Cambridge.

On August 28, 2023, at approximately 8:47 p.m., Cambridge Police responded to the intersection of Pleasant Street and Putnam Avenue for a report of a crash involving a juvenile operator of a motorcycle and a motor vehicle, a Toyota RAV4. Upon arrival, police located the driver of the RAV4, passengers in the vehicle, the operator of the motorcycle, and the motorcycle passenger, identified as McDaniels. Both the driver of the motorcycle and McDaniels were transported to Beth Israel Hospital after first aid efforts made on-scene by residents, Cambridge Fire, EMTs and police officers. McDaniels was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash. The operator of the motorcycle suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of the Toyota RAV4 was turning left onto Pleasant Street. As they turned left, the motorcycle operator crashed into the RAV4 after traveling on Pleasant Street at a high rate of speed and driving through the stop sign. The driver of the RAV4 and their passengers remained on scene.

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Cambridge Police and the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section. No charges have been filed at this time.
