Cambridge Man Arraigned on Murder Charge for Death of His Uncle

CAMBRIDGE – A Cambridge man has been arraigned on a murder charge in connection with the death of his 73-year-old uncle, whose body was found in a Cambridge apartment late Monday night, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas informed the public today.

Harold Antoine Maxwell, 33, of Cambridge, was arraigned today in Cambridge District Court on a charge of murder in the first degree. Cambridge District Court Judge RoanneSragow held the defendant without bail.

His next court date is December 19 for a probable cause hearing.

"We allege that the defendant beat his uncle to death in his own home," said District Attorney Ryan. "I commend the Detectives assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Cambridge Police Department for following the evidence in this case and for conducting a thorough investigation which led to this defendant."

According to authorities, at approximately 11:50 p.m. on Monday, November 25, Cambridge police responded to 243 Broadway. Upon their arrival they discovered a 73-year-old man, later identified as Jesse Maxwell, a resident of that apartment. He appeared to have suffered severe injuries and was later pronounced dead. Detectives from the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Cambridge Police Department initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the victim’s death.

An autopsy was conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (ME). The ME ruled the victim’s death a homicide caused by injuries to the head and compression of the neck.

It is alleged that the defendant beat the victim inside his apartment. Evidence has linked the defendant to the crime scene at the time the victim is alleged to have been murdered.

This charge is an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to the case is Assistant District Attorney Nicole Allain. The Victim Witness Advocate is Helena Clarke.
