Cambridge Man Arraigned in Connection with Acton Motor Vehicle Fatality

ACTON – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Acton Chief of Police Richard Burrows have announced that Edgar Villar, 50, of Cambridge, was arraigned on September 16 in Concord District Court in connection with a single-car motor vehicle fatality that occurred in Acton.

Villar was charged with two counts of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation. Judge Debra Shopteese set bail at $20,000 cash and ordered the defendant, should he make bail, to wear a GPS monitoring bracelet, to remain under house arrest, to not leave Massachusetts, to consume no drugs or alcohol and be subject to random screens, to surrender his passport and to not drive. The next scheduled hearing in this case is November 4.

On September 15, 2019, at approximately 3:16 a.m., Acton Police responded to a report of a single motor vehicle crash that had occurred on Powdermill Road in Acton. Upon arrival, authorities located a 2017 Honda RAV4 that had collided with a telephone pole. Outside the car the Acton Fire Department was administering aid to a female passenger who was subsequently transported to Emerson Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The passenger has been identified as Alba Moreno, 27, of Maynard. A second male passenger in the car was transported to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to Monday’s arraignment was Assistant District Attorney Robert Meltzer.
