Billerica Man Arraigned For Alleged Assault On Police Officer

WOBURN - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Billerica Police Chief Daniel Rosa have announced that Daniel Zammuto, 25, of Billerica was arraigned today in Lowell District Court on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and assault and battery on a police officer. Judge Neil Hourihan set bail at $5,000 and scheduled the next court hearing in Zammuto’s case for Wednesday, August 12.

On Sunday, July 19, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Billerica Police Department responded to a call about a reported domestic disturbance involving two adult males at a residence on Argonne Road in Billerica. Upon arrival, officers spoke at the front door area of the home with the reporting party. The conversation was interrupted when an individual, later identified as the defendant, allegedly descended the stairs from the second floor to the first floor swinging a glass bottle and allegedly began striking a police officer in the head with the bottle. A second officer used a Taser to immobilize the defendant.

The police officer who was struck several times with the bottle was transported from the scene to the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington where the officer was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This incident was investigated by the Billerica Police Department.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney James Puritz.
