Apparent Murder-Suicide Under Investigation in Lowell

LOWELL – The Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent Kelly Richardson have confirmed an investigation into an apparent murder-suicide that occurred this afternoon in Lowell.  

At approximately 5:00 p.m., Lowell Police responded to a 911 call for a report of a fatality at a residence on Featherston Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a 76-year-old male dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Detectives also observed a 79-year-old woman dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The individuals were husband and wife and were located together in their bedroom.

This is an open and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to that office and the Lowell Police Department.

No additional information is being released at this time. This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
