Lowell Man Arraigned in Connection with Domestic Assault

LOWELL – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Christopher Martini, 45, of Lowell, was arraigned today in Lowell District Court and charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery on a household or family member, assault and battery on a police officer, interfering with a firefighter, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a public employee, disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer in connection with an alleged domestic assault that occurred last night in Lowell.

Judge John Coffey ordered the defendant held without bail pending a 58A dangerousness hearing scheduled for April 18.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. on April 12, 2018, Lowell Police and emergency personnel responded to a report of a domestic assault on South Walker Street in Lowell. Upon arrival authorities located the victim, a woman in her 30s who is known to the defendant, unresponsive. The defendant allegedly told responding officers that the victim was experiencing an overdose. First responders proceeded to administer the overdose reversal drug naloxone.

The defendant allegedly became combative with the first responders, attempting to prevent them from administering care to the victim and then allegedly assaulted a police officer before being placed under arrest. The victim was transported to an area hospital with significant trauma and remains hospitalized in serious condition.

A subsequent investigation that remains active and ongoing determined that the victim’s condition was due to blunt force trauma and that the defendant had allegedly physically assaulted the victim throughout the course of the day.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutors assigned to this case are Assistant District Attorneys Katharine Folger and Emily Jackson.
